What is a Reader?

It is a beginner book for children who are comfortable with their letters, learning letter sounds and have a good idea about books and stories. You can start these with children as early as 3 years of age.

Emergent readers also focus on sight words. Sight words are common, short words that appear often. They are words that children can memorize rather than sound out each time. This builds their confidence and fluency in reading.

The emergent reader will have repetitive sentences with the sight words, which the reader can predict and ‘read’, while substituting a word(s) which will change each time. The picture will help in ‘reading’ the word.

Help your child read by using the pictures and beginning sounds as clues. With repetition, your child should be able to read these books on their own very quickly!

Have fun!
